ABOUT
“Journalism can never be silent: that is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault. It must speak, and speak immediately, while the echoes of wonder, the claims of triumph, and the signs of horror are still in the air.”
- Henry Anatole Grunwald,
Former Times Managing Editor
and Editor in Chief
Grunwald throughout all his years of experience came to understand journalism as an integral aspect of human society, a quality that has always fascinated me. As Grunwald mentions in his quote, through journalism the truth must always be said, regardless if it is a truth that is hard to hear. It is the journalist’s duty to pursue the truth and hold others accountable for their actions with reports.
Now that technology has made the news so accessible and allowed for so many others to report their own truths to the public, the dynamic of journalism has shifted in society. With a better understanding of New Media and its impact on news reporting, we will be able to grasp where journalism stands today as well as its new functions in society.
